Sustainable innovative teaching towards Industrial Revolution 4.0

Project details

The project “Sustainable Innovative Teaching towards Industrial Revolution 4.0” aims to transform vocational IT education in Kosovo by combining digitalisation, green skills, and innovative work-based learning. Led by the British Gymnasium of Technology, in cooperation with enterprises Kutiza and DataProgNet, the project introduces modern infrastructure (laptops for every student, smartboards, energy-efficient ICT labs) and international standards through the Pearson BTEC International Level 3 Diploma in IT.

Students gain over 80 days of structured in-company training across three years, working directly with enterprises on real-life projects, from software development to cybersecurity and app creation. Initiatives like the Step4Kindness app demonstrate how young people can apply technology for both industry and social good. The project ensures that graduates leave with global diplomas, practical skills, and the confidence to contribute to a sustainable, competitive, and digital future for the Western Balkans.

Key RCF investment

  • Infrastructure
  • Machineries and Equipment
The Regional Challenge Fund investment has been transformative for the British Gymnasium of Technology. Thanks to this support, we aim to build the first dedicated ICT labs for vocational secondary education in Kosovo, equipped with energy-efficient technology that meets modern standards. Every student now has access to a personal laptop, interactive smartboards, and digital tools like Microsoft 365, ensuring that learning is not only modern but also sustainable. Beyond infrastructure, the RCF project strengthenes our partnerships with enterprises such as Kutiza, DataProgNet, and Code Invention. These collaborations allow us to integrate over 80 days of structured in-company training into our curriculum, giving students the chance to work on real-world projects in cybersecurity, app development, and software engineering. The investment also enabled us to position BGT as a regional leader in innovative vocational education, aligning our programmes with Pearson BTEC international standards, Kosovo’s MASHT diploma, and the German DSD diploma. This combination provides our students with unique opportunities for both employment and higher education in the Western Balkans, Germany, and beyond. Most importantly, the RCF has helped us prove that vocational education in Kosovo can be innovative, inclusive, and future-ready, directly bridging the gap between school and the labour market, and inspiring other institutions in the region to follow this model.

We are great at

  • Digitalization of training/skills (application of technology/VR/AR/AI, application of apps in training, online learning platforms, etc.)
  • Green skills
  • Innovation
  • Career guidance and support to students employment
  • Regional cooperation (within Western Balkans 6)
At the British Gymnasium of Technology, our experience centers on building a pioneering cooperative training model in IT and programming for upper secondary students in Kosovo. Through our RCF-funded project “Sustainable Innovative Teaching towards Industrial Revolution 4.0”, we have combined international accreditation, digitalisation, and enterprise partnerships to prepare students for the future of work. Our expertise lies in: – Digital transformation in teaching and learning: Every student is equipped with a personal laptop, all classrooms are fitted with smartboards, and Microsoft 365 is integrated into daily teaching. With the support of Cyber Academy and SAP UCC Magdeburg, our students are introduced to cybersecurity, AI, and data analytics using global platforms. – Innovative work-based learning (WBL): In partnership with companies such as Code Invention, Kutiza, and DataProgNet, students spend over 80 days in-company training during their three-year programme. Internal internships and projects like the Step4Kindness app (developed for SOS Children’s Villages) show how students contribute to real industry and social needs. – Green and sustainable skills: The project invests in energy-efficient ICT labs, while also promoting awareness of sustainability and resource efficiency in the digital sector. – International pathways: As the only Pearson-accredited school in Kosovo, BGT awards globally recognised BTEC diplomas, alongside the national diploma and the German DSD diploma, enabling students to study or work internationally. We believe this combination of digitalisation, sustainability, and strong enterprise collaboration makes our experience relevant to the wider Western Balkans region. We want to share not only how we built this model, but also how it can be adapted by others to bridge gaps between education and labour market needs.
