The ReWIRE Institute is an innovative, industry-led initiative designed to address the critical skills gap in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s ICT sector. Developed as a joint venture between the University Sarajevo School of Science and Technology (SSST) and leading ICT companies—Bloomteq, ZIRA, and HTEC—the project introduces three fully accredited Cooperative Training (CT) programmes in Software Engineering, Big Data Management, and Cybersecurity.
In response to the growing demand for qualified ICT professionals, the ReWIRE Institute integrates academic excellence with hands-on, enterprise-based learning. Each CT programme spans two years, combining 75% theoretical instruction at SSST with 25% practical training in partner companies. The immersive work-based component allows students to gain real-world experience, develop high-demand competencies, and enter the workforce fully prepared to contribute from day one.
The Institute tackles some of the most urgent issues facing Bosnia and Herzegovina today: a mismatch between education and labor market needs, a shortage of digital and technical skills, and outward migration of young talent. In a context where formal education struggles to keep pace with technological change, ReWIRE introduces short-cycle, high-impact programs that deliver immediate value to both learners and the economy.
Each training programme is delivered with strong institutional support, including infrastructure such as high-tech labs, digital content production studios, and modern classrooms. Importantly, curricula are co-designed and co-taught with corporate partners, ensuring relevance and quality. Graduates will be awarded certificates recognized both nationally and through SSST’s UK academic partnership with the University of Buckingham.
With a strong emphasis on inclusion, ReWIRE aims for at least 40% female participants and 15% from vulnerable groups. In total, the project will train 90 students across three cycles, while also building a long-term platform for scaling up vocational education excellence in the region.
By equipping a new generation of tech professionals, ReWIRE enhances the competitiveness of the local ICT sector, supports digital transformation across industries, and creates pathways to sustainable employment.
