Providing the adequate training capacity for the programme by utilizing also the teachers of the public school who will be trained accordingly by Vocational Training Institute Shehu Academy.
RCF investments have brought significant benefits to Shehu Academy by strengthening our capacity to deliver high-quality vocational training in the wood processing sector. Through this support, we have achieved:
Improvement of infrastructure and equipment:
RCF investments have enabled us to modernize our training facilities with CNC machinery and equipment, creating a learning environment adapted to the real needs of the industry.
Strengthening cooperation with industry:
The project has strengthened our partnerships with local businesses and vocational schools (e.g., collaboration with the “Fehmi Lladrovci” school), increasing opportunities for dual education and aligning students’ skills with labor market demands.
Between January and June 2025, Shehu Academy trained four groups of young people in the field of wood processing, with a special focus on CNC machine programming and operation. A total of 45 candidates participated in these trainings, of whom 20 were women, demonstrating our commitment to gender inclusion and the creation of equal opportunities in technical professions.
All training groups conducted both theoretical and practical learning at the facilities of Shehu Academy, using modern equipment and technologies tailored to the needs of the sector. In addition to these groups, we also established a cooperation with the vocational school “Fehmi Lladrovci”, where a group of students attended practical training in the subject of mechatronics at our premises, enriching their knowledge through the practical application of technologies in wood processing.
Our training programs include modules such as: Introduction to the woodworking profession, materials and work environment, artisan processing with hand tools, conventional methods using static machines, surface finishing and sanding, product design using CAD/CAM software, CNC programming and operation, assembly and on-site servicing, development of new products, use of modern materials, supervision of production processes, as well as administrative and commercial tasks in the woodworking sector.
Shehu Academy, founded on the Shehu family’s 100+ years of woodworking tradition, pioneered CNC training programs as the need for skilled operators grew. Officially accredited in 2020, it has trained over 500 candidates with support from USAID, GIZ, and Swiss Cooperation. Currently, with support from the RCF (Regional Challenge Fund), the academy is building a modern, eco-friendly training center, incorporating sustainable technologies and advanced teaching methods.
